Tiga is an island located in the Pulau Tiga Marine Park, about 35 nautical miles southwest of Kota Kinabalu. Pulau Tiga Marine Park consists of three islands – Tiga, Kalampunian Damit (better known as Snake Island) and Kalampunian Besar. It is believed that Tiga was formed as a result of the eruption of several volcanoes. This process has been quite impressive as it has resulted in the formation of an island about 100 meters above sea level with volcanic mud baths on it.
The island is untouched, a tropical forest grows on it, mammals, various birds, reptiles and amphibians live on it, as well as countless insects. It is no surprise that this island was chosen as a filming location for the US reality show “Survivor”.
Snails, bamboo sharks, cuttlefish, marble rays and turtles testify to the great diversity of marine flora and fauna. The Damit Island of Kalampunian is home to an unusual variety of snakes.
12.30 On the island there will be lunch (buffet table) with local dishes of meat, fish, vegetables and rice. Dessert will include local fruits.
13.00 After lunch there is a walk to the volcanic mud baths. The path to the baths leads along a forest path. You can see monitor lizards along the way. When going to the baths, leave your belongings at the base, as it is not possible to rinse off at the baths. When you return to the base, first soak off the mud in the warm sea, then take a shower.
15.00 Return from the island.
15.30 Arrival at Kuala Penyu Pier. Departure to Garam village by bus. The trip takes about 30 minutes.
17.30 Return to the hotel (time for resting).
