09.00 Meeting with the guide at the hotel reception. Check out Annah Rais longhouse.
10.30 Arrival at Annah Rais longhouse, home of the Bidajuh ethnic group. It is 60 km from Kuching (1.5 hours drive). The road leads through farms and palm plantations, past mountains. This is a popular tourist attraction as it is easily accessible. It is also possible to stay overnight in the long house, get to know the local residents who are engaged in agriculture: they grow rice, cocoa, pepper and catch fish in the small river. Bidajuh make up 8% of the population of the state of Sarawak, they are also called land dyaks (there are also sea dyaks who live on the seashore).
Currently, around 500 people live in this house. Local residents will show their homes, tell exciting stories and gladly take pictures with visitors.
For an additional fee, it is possible to hike through the forest or visit pepper and rice plantations, as well as watch a traditional Bidajuh dance performance accompanied by local musical instruments made of bamboo. Guests are also offered to taste rice wine (prior reservation required, at least 4 people in a group).
