Tour programme

07.00 Meeting with the guide at the hotel reception. Departure to the city of Kudat, which is located in the very north of the island of Borneo. The trip from the city takes 2.5 hours.

10.30

Approximate arrival time in Sumankap village. Here you will see how one of the most important musical instruments of the Rungus ethnic group, the gong (a musical percussion instrument in the shape of a flat, round metal disc, is struck with a wooden mallet), is made. The gong is played at various events – both family celebrations, such as weddings, and national holidays. It is still a valuable wedding gift.

The next stop is the longhouse of the Rungus ethnic group in the village of Bavanggazo. Here you will get to know the traditions of this tribe, you will be able to buy belts and jewelry made by local residents.

11.30 The road to the very north of the island of Borneo leads through palm plantations to the village of Tanjung Simpang Mengayau, where two seas meet – the Sulu and the South China Sea.

12.15 Before lunch, we will stop to explore the mangrove forest and learn how to catch crabs. Wear comfortable shoes as the mangrove forest has no paths, you have to walk on tree roots. (Note: for an additional charge of MYR 95.00).

14.00 After lunch, free time for swimming and relaxing on the seashore. 

15.30 Departure. On the way there will be a short stop at a small market to buy local fruits.

18.00 Return to the hotel (approximate time).
