Kota Kinabalu is the capital of the state of Sabah. In 1881, the British established a settlement on the island of Gaya, just across the bay from where Kota Kinabalu is today.
13.30 Departure to the cultural village (30 minutes).
14.00 To enter the village, you have to cross the river on a wooden bridge. The village is in a picturesque location, on the bank of the river, with a waterfall right next to it, and you step into the past.
Here you will learn about the five ethnic groups of the state of Sabah, three of which were head hunters. This tradition was still alive during World War II, when the local natives fought against the Japanese. You will learn about the traditions of the natives, enter their house, taste local food and drinks, even rice wine, and learn local dances and pastimes such as archery. If you want, you will get a henna tattoo.
16.00 After getting to know the natives, you will be invited to an entertaining performance during which you will be able to learn the bamboo dance. After the performance, you will have time to take pictures with the dancers and shop at the souvenir shop. On the terrace you will have a lunch (buffet) with local meat and vegetable dishes, as well as fruit.

18.00 End of tour, estimated time of return to port.
