If you are staying in one of the city’s hotels, then these recommendations are very useful.

The city beach (Tanjug Aru) is unfortunately very dirty, so we recommend you to visit Tunku Abdul Rahman Park (named after the country’s first prime minister). The park is very close to the city center, so it can be reached easily and quickly.

The territory of the park is about 5000 hectares, 2/3 of which is occupied by the sea. There are five beautiful coral islands in the park: Manukan (there is one hotel on the island), Mamutik, Sulug, Sapi and the largest island Gaya, where there are three hotels. On the islands of Sapi and Gaya, there are forest trails that you can walk along. Despite the large number of tourists, the infrastructure of the islands is poorly developed (simple toilets and showers are available, but there are no parasols and sunbeds, although the shade of the trees helps to save from the heat). There are diving centers on the islands, various other water activities are available, it is possible to rent a mask for snorkeling to enjoy the underwater world.

Important notes! Sapi Island usually has the most visitors. Companies do not take visitors to Sulug Island (then you have to order a private boat, because this island is the furthest from the city).

Main entrance

To go on holiday to one of the islands of Abdul Rahman Park, follow these instructions.

First you need to drive (or leave if you live downtown) to the city pier at Jesselton Point. For the trip, we recommend using Grab or the hotel bus, warning that it will take you directly to the pier.

Ticket sales hall

When you enter through the central entrance, on the right you will find the Ticketing Hall, where you need to buy a ticket for the boat. You can do it at any cash desk, the prices are the same everywhere. When buying a ticket, you must state your name, the number of people going with you, the island you want to go to, the time you plan to return (boats return every hour).

The price of a boat ticket if you visit one island is 7.30 EUR (37.5 ringgit); when visiting several islands, the ticket costs more.

City pier

When buying a ticket, remember the name of the company that will take you to the island and back. Keep the ticket until you return back to the city.

After buying a ticket, go to the pier or wait 10-15 minutes in the hall where the benches are located. Once all guests are ready to go to the island, a member of staff will escort everyone to the boat.

The trip to the island takes about 15 minutes.

Pier Sapi Island

Upon arrival to the island, visitors must purchase a ticket to visit the park (Abdul Rahman Marine Park, which consists of five islands). The entrance ticket costs 5.5 EUR for adults, 2.8 EUR for children. This ticket is valid for a one-day visit to all five islands.

To return to the city, arrive at the pier 10 minutes before the scheduled time. The name of the company from which the ticket was purchased will be indicated on the ticket. It is this company that is responsible for taking you back to the city.
