09.00 Meet with the guide at the hotel reception. Departure for a historical tour of Georgetown. During the tour you will see:
Mount Penang – the official name of the mountain is Bukit Bedera (from Malay for ‘flag hill’). It is located 9 km from the center of George Town. There are several hills here with different names, such as Strawberry Hill, where Francis Lait (the founder of Penang) started growing strawberries. The highest point is 833 m above sea level. It is not so hot in the mountains, there was no threat of malaria, so houses were built here for government employees and the army. The residence of Fransiska Laita was also located on the hill. To make it easier to get to the top of the mountain, a cable railway was opened on January 1, 1924. With the opening of the railway, the construction of wealthy Chinese and European holiday villas began. In 2010, the railway was modernized. There is a great view of Penang from the hill. It is one of the most beautiful tours in Penang.
Kek Lok Si Temple – The Kek Lok Si Temple, built in 1989, located on Penang Island (its area of 12.1 hectares, located 3 km from Penang Hill Station) in Malaysia, is one of the largest and best temple complexes in Southeast Asia. In 1930, the seven-story pagoda of the main temple, the 30-meter-high Ban Po Thar (Thousand Buddha Pagoda), was completed. The temple worships a large Buddha statue donated by Thai King Bhumibol Adulyadej. King Rama VI of Thailand laid the foundations of the Pagoda, so it is also called Rama Pagoda. You can get to the temple by car or by climbing the stairs, where many souvenirs are sold. With millions of magnificent Buddha images, hundreds of beautiful, meaningful carvings, sculptures and murals in the temple halls, Pagoda, inside and outside arches, Kek Lok Si Temple is a center of Chinese culture and Buddha learning. In 2002, the 30.2-meter bronze statue of Guanyin, the goddess of mercy, was completed. It is the tallest Guanyin statue in the world. Around the main statue of the goddess, one hundred statues of the goddess Guanyin, each 2 meters high, are installed. However, its height was limited so that its shadow would not fall on the Penang State Mosque. This shrine also has another 10,000 Buddha statues, including a statue of the 12 animal signs of the Chinese zodiac calendar.
